The Junior League of Rhode Island, Inc. to receive 2009 Outstanding Volunteer Award

Providence, RI - The Junior League of Rhode Island (JLRI) has been selected to receive 2009 Outstanding Volunteer by the Volunteer Center of Rhode Island. The Volunteer Center at Serve Rhode Island recognizes outstanding volunteer service and pays tribute “to those individuals and groups who go above and beyond and exemplify the true potential of volunteers to make a difference in their communities.”

The JLRI is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.  Since 1921, more than 16,000 women from Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts have participated as JLRI members. More than 2.2 million hours of community service have been contributed valued at more than $40 million, and The Junior League of Rhode Island, Inc. has contributed more than $1.5 million to more than 250 community partners statewide. The JLRI’s current community projects are Supporting Literacy for Young Children with Children’s Friend and Service and Women Ending Hunger with the Rhode Island Community Food Bank.

The JLRI will be recognized for the Award at the Volunteer Center’s VolunCheers event on May 13 at Twin Rivers.
