“Say Yes to the Dress” free Prom Shop
April 23, 2016 @ 9:00 am - 5:00 pm
JLGNH is partnering with Project Hope on the 6thAnnual Say Yes to the Prom Dress Boutique! This event provides FREE prom dresses, shoes, purses and jewelry to area high school students. The boutique provides an indispensable service to area teens. A 2015 survey conducted by Visa reveals that the average American family spends about $919 on prom. This figure is even higher for lower income households: families that earn less than $25,000 per year spend an average of $1,393 on prom. Around $100 to $500 of that cost is for the prom dress alone. The Say Yes to the Prom Dress boutique unburdens the average family of some the prohibitive costs of prom. By providing completely free dresses and accessories, the boutique allows more teens to enjoy this right of passage.Last year over 500 teenagers were outfitted for prom. JLGNH has been able to secure the same space as last year through Yale (286 York Street). There are approximately 2,000 dresses left in storage from last year and we are expecting 800-1,000 more from Silver Linings organization, bridal boutiques, and the donation collection at Jordan’s Furniture.Volunteer at a great event, with our fellow league members in New Haven! Great for members close to the border, and carpooling would be a great way to get there!Contact: Morgan Regan,Community Council Director for JLGNH,email. email@example.com. 804-690-5845
