06 May JLRI will focus its Community Impact work on Children Aging Out of Foster Care
About 1,400 children enter the Rhode Island foster care system each year. More than 100 youth age out of the system each with without being adopted, reunified, or having a guardian. Youth who age out experience higher rates of financial instability, low educational attainment, homelessness, food insecurity, unemployment and poor physical and mental health, and are more likely to become teen parents, enter the criminal justice system and enroll in public assistance programs
