About Us

About Us

Who We Are

The Junior League of Rhode Island, Inc. is committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. The Junior League of Rhode Island is a volunteer organization for women interested in making an impact in their community. Since 1921, more than 16,000 Rhode Island women have participated as members.

More than 2.2 million hours of community service have been contributed valued at more than $40 million, and The Junior League of Rhode Island has contributed more than $1.5 million to more than 250 community partners statewide. We are part of The Association of Junior Leagues International, Inc., which is made up of 293 Junior Leagues in four countries.

What We Do

Community Service Projects

The Junior League of Rhode Island seeks to strengthen and enhance services essential and fundamental to each woman’s well-being. We initiate and participate in collaborative partnerships to help disadvantaged and at-risk women and children realize their potential and become productive members of society.

Our members volunteer in a variety of activities to accomplish our mission.  For example, our Community Project Committee organizes volunteer projects throughout the year which involve staffing mobile medical vans, soup kitchens; working in local food banks; organizing food and clothing drives; and organizing educational activities for under-served children.

Advocacy

The JLRI routinely researches community/governmental issues within our current focus on women and children.  We organize advocacy through letters, testimony and collaboration with other nonprofit service organizations to help effect change in these areas.

Training

The mission of the JLRI is to train its members for effective participation in the community.  Considerable emphasis is placed on leadership and board training, as well as in a wide variety of other developmental areas in which members express an interest.

JLRI’s Position Statement on Aging Out of Foster Care

The Junior League of Rhode Island, Inc. (JLRI) recognizes foster youth aging out of the foster care system face distinct challenges and seeks to positively affect their intellectual, economic, social, mental, physical and emotional well-being. The League will support efforts to ensure that these individuals have services and opportunities for educational attainment, employment, health care, housing and financial stability. Additionally, the JLRI is committed to advocating for the welfare of all foster children and to educating its membership and greater community on this broader issue.
